Online Dating: Signs of Scammers

The whole entire idea of online dating seems great to many people. All that you need to do is sign on, check out a few profiles, and you will be introduced to others who are interested in some of the same things as you are. It's important to remember that there are scam artists out there, however. Here are some of the different things that you should watch out for if you want to prevent yourself from meeting one.

Scammers may be more likely than others to inquire about personal information. If questions about your home address, social security number, and annual salary are asked, then there is a possibility that you may be speaking with a scammer. This is especially true if the questions are repeated on a regular basis. Avoid giving out personal information to anyone, no matter how friendly they may seem online. Generally, money will be the biggest thing that an internet scammer will be concerned about so be sure to avoid providing information about your bank or anything else.

Scammers are unlikely to provide photographs of themselves via the internet. The reason? They don't want to get caught. If the person that you are talking to online provides you with a blurry photograph or one that seems very unrealistic (e.g. a picture of an underwear model), then there is a good chance that it probably is not of them. That said, there are times when people are simply very attractive or their camera doesn't have a flash that's working properly. Ask for multiple pictures if you feel that the first one is a little bit strange.

If the person who you are talking to has a very unusual personality, then there's a chance that they may be a scammer or simply someone that you should avoid. Someone who seems overly curious of your whereabouts after talking for only a short period of time, for example, is someone that you will want to avoid. Notice if they seem to experience mood swings while talking to you online. If so, ignoring them is probably in your best interest.

It seems unlikely to come across a scammer, but it's important to remember that people are scammed on a regular basis. Knowing what to look for before meeting someone from the internet or falling into one of their traps to steal your money is very important. Keep in mind that it's always important to be very cautious when meeting anybody from the internet, no matter how long it has been since you began keeping in touch with them.
